Giovanni Antonini and his ensemble Il Giardino Armonico take on Haydn’s groundbreaking oratorio “The Creation”. The concert is very special for two reasons. First, because Antonini and his orchestra have dedicated the last few years to an extensive engagement with Haydn’s music.

Under the title “Haydn 2032” – in honour of the composer’s 300th birthday – they are engaged in a project to record all of his symphonies with their fresh, historically informed tone. And second, because they are joined by the wonderful Bavarian Radio Choir, as well as a select cast of soloists familiar to regular takt1 listeners (Anna Lucia Richter, Florian Boesch and Maximilian Schmitt).

In his recent exclusive takt1 interview, Antonini revealed that he is driven by pure curiosity, and the desire to discover hidden treasures within Haydn’s music. He finds Haydn’s music to be highly subtle, and full of taste and humanity. The Creation is a work with many links to the past – but also one which points the way toward the future.
