Billy Budd
New production of Billy Budd by the Teatro Real de Madrid, conducted by Britten music expert, Ivor Bolton, and staged by renowned director Deborah Warner.
The debut of Billy Budd in Madrid is one of the most important moments of the Teatro Real Bicentenary.
This new production by the Teatro Real, conducted by Britten music expert, Ivor Bolton, and staged by renowned director Deborah Warner, is a production loaded with symbolism, where the original boat of Billy Budd becomes a huge floating prison. The action takes place aboard a ship of the British Royal Navy and tells the story of the sailor Billy Budd: a beautiful young man, loyal, generous, strong, naive and kind. Billy’s physical attributes and charisma disarm the ship's master-at-arms who is incapable of controlling the situation and in the end, sacrifices the innocent lad without compunction.
