OFUNAM: A Magical Journey of Music and Literature
The UNAM Philharmonic's sixth programme combines "Music and Literature" with symphonic poems, operas, and modern works inspired by literary classics.
OFUNAM 2024. THIRD SEASON. PROGRAM 6
The sixth program of the UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2024 season marks the 95th anniversary of postgraduate studies at UNAM with a concert that celebrates the enduring bond between music and literature. Held at the Nezahualcóyotl Hall and conducted by distinguished guest conductor Ligia Amadio, this special evening explores the ways in which musical composition has long been inspired by the literary imagination.
Under the theme “Music and Literature,” the programme opens with Trois femmes de légende by the remarkable French composer Mélanie Bonis, a triptych of symphonic portraits that brings to life three legendary women—Cleopatra, Ophelia, and Salome—through vivid and expressive orchestral textures. The concert continues with the Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, S.125 by Franz Liszt, performed by acclaimed Lithuanian pianist Mūza Rubackyté, whose interpretation promises both virtuosity and emotional depth.
After the intermission, the evening concludes with the Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms, a monumental work that bridges the classical and romantic traditions, offering a powerful and moving finale. The performance masterfully balances tradition and innovation, inviting audiences to experience a rich artistic dialogue that honours the academic and cultural legacy of UNAM.
