Dance Film SF congratulates the 2019 Festival Award Winners from its recent 10th anniversary San Francisco Dance Film Festival.

Out of over 120 films which screened at the recent 10th Anniversary San Francisco Dance Film Festival, the festival's independent jury selected six films that outstandingly demonstrated depth, artistry, and innovation in dance film.

Best Student Film: THE ACT OF BREATHING ($500 USD)
The film questions physical existence and movements as dance on screen through the metamorphosis of a body.
Director/Choreographer: Hana Yamazaki | Hungary

Best Art/Experimental Film: THE DÉRIVE ($500 USD)
Follows a dancer moving through Tehran, capturing passerby responses and reactions. Since dance is prohibited in Iran, this action is a bold statement of personal freedom.
Director/Choreographer: Tanin Torabi | Iran/Ireland

Best Live Performance Capture: BETROFFENHEIT ($500 USD)
This boundary-stretching theatre/dance work explores the psychological states of trauma, grief and addiction.

Best Screendance Under 10: ABOUT FACE ($500 USD)
Reframes the school to prison pipeline and the role of fathers.

Three sisters grow up in a broken home and must survive by trusting their special bond.
