Beethoven's ten violin sonatas represent a pillar of the violin repertoire; a milestone for any violin-and-piano duo, they take the genre beyond its Classical roots towards the realm of Romanticism. Fresh from a critically-acclaimed recording of the works, violinist Antje Weithaas and pianist Dénes Várjon here present the cycle over the course of three concerts – on consecutive days – in Berlin's Pierre Boulez Saal. And, by grouping the works not chronologically but thematically, these two superb artists, ensure that each concert offers a compelling journey into Beethoven’s musical imagination. Weithaas and Várjon received the Annual German Record Critics’ Award for this album.
