VENICE TV AWARD ANNOUNCES ITS 2022 WINNERS

Supported by the IMZ, the prestigious competition honours this year’s television masterpieces.

Two weeks after the Venice Film Festival, international jurors met in Venice for the annual Venice TV Award, which honours the year’s television masterpieces across 16 separate categories.

The category Performing Arts was won by Romeo & Juliet, the National Theatre's first attempt at a film production created solely for the screen on a single stage, over 17 days, during the pandemic (Sky Arts, United Kingdom).

An additional six productions were awarded nominees in the Performing Arts category:

Tosca: Giacomo Puccini's opera in a broadcast from Theater an der Wien – ORF, Austria, Unitel, Vereinigte Bühnen Wien.

Wonderful World – A New York Jazz Story: Inside the hallowed walls of a legendary club, the jazz community attempts to regain a Wonderful World – NHK, Japan.

The Parsifal Case: A broadcast of Parsifal from the Vienna State Opera with intimate insights into Richard Wagner’s mythical cosmos – ORF, Austria, Unitel.

2022: A narrative of the country through the verses of Brazilian music – HBO Max, Brazil.

Carpathian Rhapsody: An atmospheric portrait of Carpathian music in black and white with Concerto Budapest and jazz stars – MEZZO TV, France.

La Voix Humaine: A psychological film based on the iconic play by Jean Cocteau with the Royal Opera House Orchestra – BBC 2, United Kingdom, Unitel.

“The core of the future of TV lies in the development and production of high-quality stories and original content. Being able to see and judge high-quality, engaging content at The Venice TV Award is what makes this award so important and so relevant,” as Jury Member Karim Bartoletti, Executive Board Member, Italian Association of Production Companies, succinctly put it.
