“The whole city is a stage” – this is how the founding fathers of the Salzburg Festival – Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss – formulated their intentions 100 years ago. Their wishes came to fruition and thrive unabated to this very day: During festival season, Salzburg undergoes a “momentary metamorphosis”, during which international stage stars, celebrities and the elites gather in this city of boundless charm. The Salzburg Festival has long since established itself as the most renowned classical music festival worldwide.

Filmmaker Chris Weisz portrays the Salzburg Festival and tells its fascinating story: from the beginning as a peace project after the First World War to the myth about the “Jedermann” till today. What is it that makes the Salzburg Festival unique and exceptionally? Tobias Moretti, Teodor Currentzis, Anne-Sophie Mutter or Cornelius Obonya will tell you the answer among others.

The documentary will be available in June 2020.
