Symphony N°8 in E-flat major - Gustav Mahler
The monumental Symphony of a Thousand by Gustav Mahler was described by the composer as "a present to an entire nation".
Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker tackle one of the symphonic repertoire: Mahler's Eighth Symphony, also named the "Symphony of a Thousand" by the composer's impresario.
It is at first sight characterized by the gigantic size of its staff: At its creation, 850 choristers, 140 musicians, to which eight soloists voice, eight trumpets and three trombones were added. Powerful and subtle, The 8th Symphony is superbly conducted by Valery Gergiev, specialist of the work of Mahler.
