In this final program of the second season, under the direction of Sylvain Gasançon, OFUNAM presents works by Mexican composer Aquiles Lázaro, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Pierre Boulez, and Maurice Ravel.

The program presents a dialogue between three centuries of symphonic music, inviting audiences on a sonic journey through time and artistic sensitivity. An evening that promises emotion, beauty, and the opportunity to witness live the encounter between tradition, modernity and creative brilliance.

Focusing on the relationship between music, the environment, and recycling, this edition brings together works inspired by diverse forms of art. The concert opens with Chimalli by Aquiles Lázaro, a contemplative and intriguing piece born from his encounter with the monumental statue Guerrero Chimalli, sculpted by Enrique Sebastián Carbajal. In the same spirit, the soloist Sergei Nakariakov masterfully performs Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, on the trumpet.

The second part of the programme begins with a brief segment on the life of Pierre Boulez. Afterwards, the audience will experience his enigmatic Notations I–IV and VII, originally written when he was only twenty years old, and later transformed with the mature perspective he acquired over the years.

Finally, the concert concludes with Ravel’s Suite No. 2 from Daphnis and Chloé, a free adaptation of the Hellenistic story by Longus, which stands as one of the pinnacles of orchestral impressionism.
