New on takt1: Currentzis with Mozart’s
Peter Sellars stages Mozart's "Idomeneo" at the Salzburg Festival, with Teodor Currentzis conducting the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
When Mozart presented his "Idomeneo" at the Munich Court Theater at the age of 25, it was clear that the work announced the arrival of a new generation. "Idomeneo" is a total work of art, combining drama, poetry, dance and stage effects – all with a rich orchestration on a scale completely unheard of at the time.
Teodor Currentzis and director Peter Sellars (Film Director) already worked together at the Salzburg Festival back in 2017, when they staged Mozart's "La clemenza di Tito". For "Idomeneo", Sellars has once again opted for a puristic stage design. It's a production about the anger and despair of refugees, addressing themes such as violence, trauma, major conflicts and – more relevant than ever – the destruction of the environment. The raging seas rise up against the dominance of human beings.
