With more than eighty works to his credit, Thierry Malandain developed a very personal vision of dance. Deeply linked to the concept of “Ballet” as an aesthetic movement, he gives priority to the dancing body and the celebration of its sensuality and humanity.

SILHOUETTE

Etienne de Silhouette, was a financial inspector under Louis XV, who gave name to this choreography, probably because his reforms tended only to leave taxpayers the silhouette of their fortune. This solo is a miniature through which the silhouette of the dancer passes.

ESTRO

This creation is based on Stabat Mater and Estro Armonico Op. 3 by Vivaldi. The choreography is based on the desire to rise and the effort to reach the summit of a mountain, the place where the sky meets the earth.

NOCTURNES

Frédéric Chopin, consumed by his feelings, used the depth of his melancholic nature to express the language of love in his nocturnes. By transcending the idea of combining two things as conflicting as dance and death, Nocturnes is as a fresco, like a dream crushed under the weight of eternal melancholy.

L'APRÈS-MIDI D'UN FAUNE

Thierry Malandain mainly focused on the faun desire and the expression of his sensuality through dreams and fantasies.

LE SPECTRE DE LA ROSE

A few lines by the poet Theophile Gautier inspired Jean-Louis Vaudoyer for this short
ballet, created on 19th April 1911 by Tamara Karsavina and Vaslav Nijinski.

UNE DERNIÈRE CHANSON

"It is a light-hearted, bubbly ballet intended as a moment of humanity to forget for a
short while our tough, worried existence."
