The orchestra started to live stream concerts to local senior centres and nursing homes as early as 2012, and since then numerous multicamera productions have been made, but only for a limited regional market.

As Nathalie Stutzmann entered the podium as chief conductor in 2018, everything was set to start sharing with the rest of the world the music performed in majestic Kilden Performing Arts Centre in Kristiansand, Norway. The app is called KSO Play, and is available for Android, iPhone, iPad and AppleTV.

Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, numbering 70 musicians, is one of Norway’s seven full-time professional symphony orchestras. The orchestra is a young and vital ensemble comprised of musicians from fifteen different nations.

About the piece
Maurice Ravel wrote this piece in 1919-20 as ballet music, and as a tribute to the King of Walz, Johann Strauss Jr. Since then this popular piece, with its shifting character and dynamic variations, has been interpreted as a time document of a turbulent post World War Europe, the lost glory of Vienna as well as peoples general concern about the future of the continent. Ravel himself insisted that the piece describes a dancing couple, seen through a layer of misty clouds, before an enormous ballroom is filled with whirling couples dancing under flickering light from the chandeliers.
