Carl Maria von Webers opera EURYANTHE recorded at Theater an der Wien

Weber’s great “heroic-romantic opera” EURYANTHE premiered in Vienna in 1823. It concerns the wronged Euryanthe, victim of a plot to establish her unfaithfulness, but her love imbues her with colossal strength which Weber characterises with acute psychological insight. Through-composed and dispensing with spoken dialogue, its chivalric plot provides opportunities for a serie of arias, ariosos, duets, cavatinas and choruses that contain some of his greatest operatic music. This production employs the opera’s original version with a few, very minor cuts.

EURYANTHE was performed and recorded at THEATER AN DER WIEN in December 2018 with Jacquelyn Wagner in the title-role. In further roles you will see Norman Reinhardt, Theresa Kronthaler, Andrew Kronthaler, Andrew Foster-Williams, Stefan Cerny and Eva-Maria Neubauer. Stage director oft this impressive production is Christof Loy, Constantin Trinks conducts the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. Costumes are designed by Judith Weihrauch, the set by Johannes Leiacker, Reinhard Traub is responsible for the lighting design.
