Luther – An Oratorio
The first large-scale work for orchestra, choir and soloists dedicated to Martin Luther.
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 the internationally acclaimed composer of contemporary music Oscar Strasnoy and Christoph Hein, one of the most important German authors, have been commissioned to create an oratorio dedicated to the life and work of Martin Luther.
For the first time the focus lies on Luther in such a large-scale work for orchestra, choir and soloists. It’s a critical view of the person Luther, in which each role of the soloists is caricatured by the pitch of the voice.
