A beloved fixture on the city’s culture schedule for 32 years, the 2022 Film Festival at Vienna’s Rathausplatz concluded on 4 September, rounding out an eclectic programme and first-rate gourmet food court with one last bombastic recording of Il Barbiere di Siviglia as performed at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2021.

Curated by the IMZ, numerous highlights drew impressive crowds this summer, including concert recordings of Queen, Tina Turner, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie and top tier Operas and performances by the likes of the Vienna Philharmonic and John Williams featuring Anne-Sophie Mutter.
The exceptional weather and end of pandemic restrictions allowed for a particularly pleasant festival atmosphere; various side events returned such as the highly-popular Children’s Opera Festival, which took place every Friday and helped make classical music more approachable for all ages.

As always, visitors enjoyed free entry; the IMZ is proud to have done its part to make culture more inclusive and establishing new audiences – if you’re interested in organising a festival of your own, contact Antonius Widmann (a.widmann@imz.at) for a quote!
