MET OPERA LIVE IN HD – ROMÉO ET JULIETTE
23 MARCH 2024: Celebrated tenor Benjamin Bernheim stars at the Met in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette – transmitted live to cinemas on 23 March.
Two singers at the height of their powers – soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor Benjamin Bernheim – come together as the star-crossed lovers in Gounod’s sumptuous Shakespeare adaptation, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct one of the repertoire’s most romantic scores. Tony Award–winning director Bartlett Sher’s staging updates the action to 18th-century Verona and conjures both the magic and heartbreak of this timeless love story.
The cast also features baritone Will Liverman and tenor Frederick Ballentine as the archrivals Mercutio and Tybalt, mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as the mischievous pageboy Stéphano, and bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Frère Laurent.
The live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning LIVE IN HD series, presented in Germany and Austria by Clasart Classic.
