Jakub Hrůša and the Berliner Philharmoniker
14 APRIL 2025: Easter Festival Baden-Baden 2025 : Jakub Hrůša and the Berliner Philharmoniker present works by Leoš Janáček, Béla Bartók and Ludwig van Beethoven.
About Béla Bartók, composer György Kurtág once said: "His mother tongue was Beethoven." Under the direction of Jakub Hrůša, the Berliner Philharmoniker takes you on a journey through Bartók's monumental Concerto for Orchestra, which he composed while in exile in America. Ludwig van Beethoven, too, was surrounded by the sounds of war when he composed his final piano concerto. Known as the « Emperor » Concerto, its nickname’s origins remain unclear—whether it refers to the fleeing Archduke Rudolph or the advancing Emperor Napoleon, from whom Beethoven had already distanced himself at the time.
At the piano, the orchestra is joined by Seong-Jin Cho, who enjoys pop star status in his native South Korea. Born in Seoul in 1994, he began playing the piano at the age of six and gave his first public concert at eleven. He gained worldwide attention in 2015 when he won the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, launching a meteoric rise in his career. Today, Seong-Jin Cho is recognised as one of the leading pianists of his generation and a distinctive voice in the contemporary music scene. In the 2024/25 season, he will serve as Artist in Residence with the Berlin Philharmonic—a role that will see him collaborate with the orchestra throughout the season in concert performances, chamber music projects, recitals, and the tour to the Baden-Baden Easter Festival.
