Few pieces of opera literature were subject to such a frequent paradigm shift in their reception history as Carl Maria von Weber's “Freischütz” (The Marksman). The spooky element was given the leading role, then fate or nature were considered as central element of the opera's story. Even the composer himself was regarded as the creator of the 'natural folk-tone', the 'most German' of all composers and the successor to the French revolutionary opera.

The new production of the romantic opera at the Vienna State Opera by Christian Räth will be broadcasted by the ORF live delayed three days after the opening night. Among the soloists are Camilla Nylund, Daniela Fally and shooting star Andreas Schager. Agnes Méth will be the TV Director.
