DVD + Blu-Ray:
Giuseppe Verdi: Macbeth / Teatro Massimo
Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece Macbeth staged by the Italian director Emma Dante, famed for her award-winning film career, at the Teatro Massimo in 2017.
Opera in four acts (1847)
Paris version (1865), sung in Italian
The Italian director Emma Dante staged the powerful, witchy and barbaric Macbeth, where the witches’ bellies are containers of prophecies, magical wombs giving birth to the future. The production preserves the preferred 1865 revision of the work, sung in Italian and retaining the original 1847 finale with the famous aria “Mal per me che m'affidai,” featuring the successful conductor Gabriele Ferro (Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Orchestra della RAI, Staatsoper Stuttgart) and the internationally renowned cast of performers with baritone Roberto Frontali as Macbeth and soprano Anna Pirozzi, who gave a remarkable performance as Lady Macbeth.
