Leading bel canto singers in Bellini: I puritani
Bellini’s I puritani, recorded at the Kulturpalast Dresden, will be released on SACD hybrid and digitally on 6 December, 2024.
“This is a project that I’ve been dreaming about for a really long time because I puritani is maybe my dream opera. It’s about abandonment. It’s about loyalty. It’s about misunderstanding and it’s about an emotional depth. And this has to be expressed in the vocalism, this has to be expressed in the arias with the voice.” – Lisette Oropesa
Bellini’s I puritani, recorded at the Kulturpalast Dresden, will be released on SACD hybrid and digitally on 6 December, 2024. The album brings together two leading bel canto singers of our time: International Opera Award winner Lisette Oropesa (Best Female Opera Singer, 2024) and the tenor Lawrence Brownlee (Artist of the Year 2008, Seattle Opera Award for his role as Arturo in I puritani). The Italian bel canto specialist Riccardo Frizza was responsible for the musical direction of the technically and vocally demanding opera while making his debut as conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the MDR-Radio Choir. The other roles are sung by baritone Anthony Clark Evans (Riccardo), bass Riccardo Zanellato (Giorgio), tenor Simeon Esper (Bruno), bass Martin-Jan Nijhof (Valton) and mezzo-soprano Roxana Constantinescu (Enrichetta).
