Beethoven’s Nine To Open Beyond Borders Festival
Larry Weinstein’s documentary about Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony will be the opening night film at the Beyond Borders Festival in Kastellorizo, Greece.
After three sold-out screenings at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto, followed by a standing ovation at the opening of BTHVN 2024 at Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Larry Weinstein’s latest documentary, Beethoven’s Nine: Ode to Humanity has been selected to open the Beyond Borders Documentary Festival being held 15 August to 1 September, 2024 in Kastellorizo, Greece.
Weinstein’s film is a deeply personal exploration of the meaning of Beethoven’s final symphony in today’s world. Meant to be an exploration of how far we have come in the 200 years since the Ninth premiered, unforeseen and tragic circumstances pull Weinstein into his own film leading to a profoundly moving and thoughtful reflection on the music’s power and relevance. Featuring Gabriela Lena Frank, Brodka (pictured), the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, Leonard Bernstein and Charles Schulz.
Beethoven’s Nine is produced by 3B Produktions and Riddle Films in co-production with ZDF and SRG SSR, in association with ARTE and TVO, and in collaboration with SVT, NRK and YLE. Distribution is being handled by Unitel.
