On 26 January, the Teatro Massimo should have have opened the 2021 season with an opera perfornance, but due to the pandemic that was not allowed and director Johannes Erath and musical director Omer Meir Wellber created "Il crepuscolo dei sogni" (The twilight of the dreams! ), Wellber and Erath trace a dreamlike path between light and shadow, from the "dream through the twilight" in Strauss to Schubert's "Winterreise", from the shadows of "slander" in Rossini's The Barber of Seville and the ascent in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov. In between, the view wanders again and again from Italian to German and Russian opera, from Lieder to songs, from the Baroque with Purcell and Monteverdi to the twentieth century with Bernstein and Korngold. Transforming the whole opera house into one huge film set, mixing live music with recorded elements - this is an opening like you have never seen before. With Carmen Giannattasio, Markus Werba and Alexandros Stavrakakis under the baton of Omer Meir Wellber.
