Scheherazade, OPS directed by Aziz Shokhakimov
Rimsky-Korsakov’s iconic suite, brought to life by Aziz Shokhakimov and the Strasbourg Philharmonic, inspired by One Thousand and One Nights.
Scheherazade, composed in 1888 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, is one of the most iconic works in the classical repertoire. In this new 2024 recording, the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Aziz Shokhakimov, delivers a vivid and refined interpretation of the celebrated symphonic suite inspired by One Thousand and One Nights.
Structured in four movements, the work evokes key episodes from the tales, blending colourful orchestration and rich melodic textures. A solo violin represents Scheherazade’s voice, spinning mesmerising stories to captivate Sultan Shahryar. Rimsky-Korsakov’s composition has long been admired for its dramatic flair and imaginative orchestration, making it a favourite among classical audiences.
Scheherazade has inspired generations of artists, from composers like Debussy and Ravel to choreographers such as Michel Fokine, whose ballet version for the Ballets Russes in 1910 marked a turning point in stage design and musical storytelling.
This new concert recording offers high artistic and technical quality, ideal for broadcasters looking to enrich their classical programming with visually and musically captivating content. Suitable for primetime slots, cultural specials, or seasonal highlights, this production brings renewed vitality to a timeless masterpiece.
