Richter L’Insoumis – A film by Bruno Monsaingeon
Sviatoslav Richter, one of the greatest pianists of all time, breaks his life-long silence and allows an interview in this autobiographical film.
We see his life on an epic scale as he evokes his wild childhood, his encounters with the great names in the music world, his debuts and activities as a concert artist in Soviet Union. Previously unseen archive footage and a wealth of performance extracts complete this portrait of an artist who refused to conform, one of the giants of the 20th century.
The film is entirely "narrated" by Sviatoslav Richter who we get to know as both musician and pianist, particularly through his reading of extracts from his “musician’s diary”. An interview with his wife, the singer Nina Dorliac rounds out the narrative.
