Richard Strauss ARABELLA
Strauss’s elegant romance in Otto Schenk's iconic production.
Otto Schenk’s opulent production provides a perfect setting for Strauss’s bittersweet comedy of true love and mistaken identity. Compelling soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen stars as Arabella, the daughter of an impoverished aristocrat. Tomasz Konieczny sings Mandryka, the landowner from the provinces who wins her over with his honesty and genuine charm in the midst of Viennese society. Louise Alder is Zdenka, Arabella’s younger sister, whose well-meaning actions cause all kinds of misunderstandings, and Pavol Breslik sings Matteo, Arabella’s suitor, who realizes he is really in love with Zdenka.
"It is a pleasure to see this masterpiece back at the house!" - Operawire
"Soprano Willis-Sørensen displayed an opulent tone that had a variation of dynamics. The soprano could display a floating piano and also showcased a spectacular legato line with a resonant middle voice." - Operawire
