No other country in Europe has experienced as many transformations on the map as Poland. Its territory has varied from expansive to diminished, and it vanished entirely for 123 years. Music has consistently united the populace, acting as both a reflection and a testament to Poland's rich history. But what defines "Polish" music? What makes it special, and who has shaped it?
In this exploration of Polish music, we are guided by the unique perspective of TV Director Magdalena Zięba-Schwind. We encounter contemporary musicians who are now shaping the landscapes of classical, folk, and jazz music. Through their stories, viewers will gain insights into the influences that have moulded Polish musical tradition and the inspirations that drive artists today. We’ll also delve into questions about whether contemporary composers still resonate with a distinctly "Polish" sound.
Our journey takes us through significant Polish cities that have played vital roles in the nation’s vibrant musical tapestry: Wroclaw, Katowice, Krakow, and Warsaw. Collaborations with artists like Marzena Diakun, Agata Zubel, Szymon Nehring, Adam Bałdych, Warsaw Village Band, Kinga Głyk, and Jakub Orlinski further enrich our narrative, highlighting the diverse and dynamic nature of Poland's musical heritage.
