On-demand concerts from Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Hilan Warshaw of Overtone Films is now video director at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, directing acclaimed weekly on-demand multi-camera video concerts.
Since September 2020, Hilan Warshaw of Overtone Films has been video director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Classical Series, directing weekly multi‐camera orchestral concerts released on‐demand due to the pandemic and featuring conductors and soloists including Robert Spano, Sir Donald Runnicles, Nathalie Stutzmann, Gil Shaham and Yefim Bronfman. Acclaimed for their immersive camerawork and editing, these releases have generated hundreds of new virtual memberships for the orchestra, and some have been broadcast locally on PBS and NBC.
Reviewing a recent concert, the EarRelevant blog wrote, “Symphonic music in the time of the pandemic is a curious and challenging endeavor. Can virtual concerts possibly fill the bill? Yes, and better than one might suppose... This filmed concert features imaginative and inventive video work, courtesy of director Hilan Warshaw and a gifted team of cameramen, recording engineers, and editors. It is clear from the opening of the concert that this will be no ordinary performance video... We all know what’s missing from a film presentation; what is interesting is what’s been added to the concert experience in this particular film...The cameras closely track the progress of the music and anticipate the solos of the orchestral players, always in the right place at the right time.”
