New IMZ Member: National Dance Theatre Budapest
A warm welcome to the National Dance Theatre Budapest, Hungary’s leading centre for dance and a key institution in presenting, supporting and promoting Hungarian dance on national and international stages.
National Dance Theatre is Hungary’s leading centre for dance, presenting more than 400 performances annually to an audience of approximately 75,000 viewers. Founded in 2001, the institution plays a key role in shaping, supporting and promoting Hungarian dance both nationally and internationally.
Since 2019, the Theatre has been operating in a purpose-built venue in Millenáris Park, Budapest, housed in a former industrial building transformed into a contemporary cultural space. The 6,950 m² building was designed specifically for dance and features a 368-seat main auditorium with a 16 × 24 metre stage, a 120-seat studio theatre, two rehearsal studios, additional chamber spaces and a fully equipped recording studio. The venue offers flexible stage configurations and state-of-the-art theatre technology tailored to the technical needs of dance productions.
As a hosting theatre, the National Dance Theatre collaborates with nearly 40 Hungarian professional dance companies, presenting a wide range of genres from folk dance and classical ballet to contemporary dance and productions for young audiences. Beyond hosting performances, the institution is actively involved in the management, coordination and international representation of Hungarian dance ensembles, supporting their presence at festivals, markets and international stages.
Through performances, international collaborations and audiovisual projects, the National Dance Theatre aims to strengthen artistic exchange and increase the international visibility of Hungarian dance and dance film.
