La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra with Alain Altinoglu
La Monnaie Orchestra’s opening of Colmar Festival with Altinoglu, Degout, and a journey from Wagner to Mahler to Franck.
The 2025 edition of the Festival International de Colmar opened in grand style with the prestigious Symphony Orchestra of La Monnaie, under the baton of acclaimed conductor Alain Altinoglu. Filmed in the stunning Saint-Matthieu church, this exceptional concert sets the tone for the entire festival.
The program begins with the ethereal Prelude to Lohengrin by Wagner, followed by baritone Stéphane Degout’s moving interpretation of Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wandering Companion), a masterpiece of melancholy and lyricism.
The evening culminates in a radiant performance of César Franck’s Symphony in D minor, a cornerstone of the French symphonic repertoire, balancing Romantic drama with spiritual depth.
This film captures not just a concert, but a moment of musical excellence: a meeting of world-class performers in one of France’s most revered classical festivals.
