The Human Rights Concert from the UN in Geneva
On Human Rights Day, 10 Dec, Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will perform in the Human Rights Hall at the Palace de Nations, Geneva.
The West-Eastern Divan, which was just recently designated as a United Nations Global Advocate for Cultural Understanding, will perform Joseph Haydn’s Concerto for Violoncello No. 1 & the Sinfonia Concertante for four winds by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart under the baton of Daniel Barenboim. Soloist will be the rising cello virtuoso Kian Soltani.
This edition of the "Concert for the Understanding of Civilisations and Human Rights", a concert series that promotes dialogue and peace through art, is the last in the tenure of Ban Ki-moon as UN Secretary-General and will again be set in the magnificent Human Rights Hall at the Palace of Nations. With its dome created by the internationally renowned Spanish artist Miquel Barceló, the hall is a work of art in itself. Its ceiling covered with irregular stalactites, evokes the sea in pastel colours and provides a stunning backdrop for this concert.
