The film accompanies the Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst, who celebrated his 60th birthday this summer, to important stages in his life: The cities of his work from London to Zurich and Vienna to Cleveland, and his ties to the Vienna Philharmonic and the Salzburg Festival. He recalls the serious car accident on the 150th anniversary of Schubert's death - exactly at the hour of his death. He speaks about his teacher Balduin Sulzer, who accompanied his involuntary journey from violinist to conductor.

Silence plays a very important role in Welser-Möst’s life: so he talks about his quiet experiences and his book “Wie ich die Stille fand” (How I found silence).
Embedded in the biographical observations are the rehearsals of Strauss’ opera “Elektra” at the 2020 Salzburg Festival (stage director: Krzystof Warlikowski).

In 2018, Welser-Möst had immense success in Salzburg with the Strauss opera “Salome” – and with him the Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian, who performs in “Elektra” alongside her compatriot Aušrinė Stundytė.
