Brett Dean’s HAMLET is a bold adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless drama. Tenor Allan Clayton makes a sensational Met debut with his acclaimed portrayal. Dean and librettist Matthew Jocelyn have created a taut, dramatically effective opera, presented in an electrifying staging by noted Australian director Neil Armfield. Nicholas Carter makes his company debut conducting a stellar ensemble cast that also stars Brenda Rae as Ophelia, Sarah Connolly as Gertrude, Rod Gilfry as Claudius, and John Relyea as the ghost of Hamlet’s father and the Gravedigger.

“Enthralling … Riveting … Marvelous … A formidable cast … A superior work … This HAMLET hits deep in the bones and the gut.” (Financial Times)

In the world-premiere production of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts’s THE HOURS, adapted from Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel, Renée Fleming makes her highly anticipated return to the Met. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, the powerful story follows three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society. The premiere radiates with star power, with Kelli O’Hara and Joyce DiDonato joining Fleming as the opera’s trio of heroines. Phelim McDermott directs, with Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium.

“…Operatic star power ... immense amount of talent … an evening that had great beauty and reached genuine and considerable emotional depths.” (New York Classical Review)
