Between East and West: Honoring Arvo Pärt
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Concerto Copenhagen celebrate Arvo Pärt’s 90th with conductor Tõnu Kaljuste in Görlitz.
To mark Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Concerto Copenhagen join forces for a special concert at St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Görlitz. Led by Grammy-winning conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, a long-standing artistic partner and passionate advocate of Arvo Pärt’s music, the programme features works by one of today’s most renowned living composers.
Arvo Pärt’s music has played a pivotal role in uniting Europe’s spiritually defining forces. His compositions draw upon traditions from Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, and Protestantism, creating a dialogue that enriches all. Through his music, Pärt has bridged aesthetics, ethics, and spirituality, bringing elements of Eastern musical traditions into Western concert halls and making them accessible to a broad audience.
Görlitz, Germany’s easternmost city, is a symbolic location for this celebration, reflecting its historical role as a cultural bridge between East and West. A concert presented by the Lausitz Festival which continues its mission to present exceptional, cross-cultural music programs in this melting pot region of cultures.
