ZDF/ARTE Wins the International Emmy® for Arts Programming
IMZ Member ZDF/ARTE won the Arts Programming category at the 52nd International Emmy® Awards Gala, held on Monday, 25 November 2024, in New York City.
Once a year, the world's top television producers gather to showcase their programming at the International Emmy® Awards. The event attracts over a thousand international broadcasting, production, and distribution executives who come together to celebrate excellence in global television.
This year, the top honour in the Arts Programming category went to ZDF/ARTE for their film Pianoforte.
The film by Jakub Piątek follows six young pianists from around the world who competed in the prestigious 2021 Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Viewers are taken on a journey through the highs and lows of the competition — from moments of triumph to the heartbreak of giving up. The documentary delves into what it means to create music at the highest level and the sacrifices these young musicians make to achieve excellence.
“We are thrilled for the Polish team and the recognition of a film that offers a deeply observant look at the world’s best pianists and the art of losing. It’s a true win for the audience”, Wolfgang Bergmann, ARTE Coordinator at ZDF and Managing Director of ARTE Germany.
The film is a production by Telemark in co-production with ZDF/ARTE, Ventana Film, HBO Max, the Frederic Chopin Institute, and with the support of the Polish Film Institute. It premiered on ARTE on 27 March 2024, with ZDF/ARTE’s Dieter Schneider serving as editor.
We would like to thank the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for our long-standing and fruitful cooperation. It was our pleasure to host this year’s Semi-Final Round of Judging in Vienna.
