YUM! Wins Fedora Digital Prize 2025

Yum!, a production by the Austrian company Studio M.A.R.S, was awarded the FEDORA Digital Prize 2025 at the ceremony held on 26 April at the Wiener Staatsoper.

This extended reality (XR) opera experience invites audiences into a surreal world that explores themes such as food security, climate change, social inequality and identity. The project was selected for its innovative use of digital tools in music theatre and its ability to engage audiences through multisensory participation.The preview is scheduled for March 2026 at Théâtre du Minotaure in France, with further performance dates to follow.

The FEDORA Prizes Biennale is the largest international competition for innovation in opera and dance, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The competition awards privately funded prizes in four categories: Opera, Dance, Education, and Digital, in partnership with Opera Europa, RESEO and the IMZ. In total, 12 nominated projects from 26 countries were shortlisted out of 52 submissions involving 259 artists and 112 cultural organisations.

This year’s other laureates include The Curing Line by Straymaker (Ireland), winner of the Opera Prize; Gentleman Jack by Northern Ballet (UK), winner of the Dance Prize; and Yallah Danse! by Compagnie ECO (France), winner of the Education Prize.

The FEDORA Audience Award 2025 went to Hôtel Moctezuma, a project led by Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie (France).

All projects were recognised for their artistic ambition, social relevance and contribution to the future of the performing arts.
