Wiener Staatsoper: Mahler, Live
24 NOV 2020: Mahler, Live is a dialogue between two outstanding ballets, broadcasted live from the Wiener Staatsoper on Tuesday, 24 November.
The Vienna State Ballet’s new director and chief choreographer, Martin Schläpfer, is about to premiere his new choreography 4. The ballet takes its name from the magisterial Symphony No. 4 by Gustav Mahler, who besides being a great composer was also director of the Vienna State Opera. This debut makes for an interesting contrast with Live, a 1979 work by Dutch choreographer Hans van Manen to piano music by Franz Liszt.
