Unforgettable Summer Night with Minería Symphony
In this summer concert, the Minería Symphony Orchestra will present three works exploring the musical landscapes of Mexico, Austria, and Germany.
In the seventh programme of the summer 2024, director Carlos Miguel Prieto and the Minería Symphony Orchestra performed three captivating musical works by three renowned composers.
The first piece is Alcancías by Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas, which consists of three movements: “Allegro”, “Andantino”, and “Allegro vivo”. Each movement offers an immersive journey into Mexican culture, incorporating elements such as pregones—the characteristic cries or announcements of street vendors—, a melancholic ranchera rooted in traditional Mexican folk music, and a lively huapango, a vibrant style of Mexican popular music.
Following Revueltas’ Mexican social realism, the concert continues with the classical Piano Concerto No. 2 by the young Ludwig Van Beethoven. For this performance, American pianist Anne-Marie McDermott joins the flutes, oboes, bassoons, and horns of the Minería Symphony Orchestra.
Finally, the concert's second half concludes with Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, featuring the largest ensemble of musicians set to perform this summer. This symphonic poem draws from key chapters of Friedrich Nietzsche's novel, arranged in a dramatic sequence: “Sunrise”, “Of the Backworldsmen”, “Of the Great Longing”, “Of Joys and Passions”, “The Song of the Grave”, “Of Science and Learning”, “The Convalescent”, “The Dance Song”, and “Song of the Night Wanderer”.
