The Nuremberg “Klassik Open Air”
The Nuremberg „Klassik Open Air“ is one of Europe`s largest open-air events for classical music.
Each year at the end of July, up to 90.000 music lovers gather in Nuremberg’s spacious outdoor venue “Luitpold Hain” to celebrate summer and their enthusiasm for classical music. Equipped with picnic-baskets, blankets, deckchairs and ample supplies of beverages and food, the audience settles down in front of a concert shell, ready to listen until late night to the performances of the two leading orchestras in town, the Nürnberger Symphoniker and the Nürnberger Philhamoniker.
In 2018, Bayerischer Rundfunk Fernsehen will broadcast the Philharmoniker’s concert on July 22, as they will perform highlights from the oeuvre of American composer George Gershwin under the baton of their chief conductor, Marcus Bosch. Soloists will be Soprano Melba Ramos and Baritone Derrick Lawrence. They will be heard in such all-time-hits as “The Man I love”; “Let’s call the whole Thing off” and “Summertime”.
