At the opening concert, Kirill Petrenko presents Johannes Brahms’s First Symphony. Over the course of the season, the chief conductor will also be at the helm of mammoth projects: Gustav Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand and Richard Wagner’s Rheingold.
As Artist in Residence, Janine Jansen will delight audiences with her beauty of sound and emotional depth. Tenor Benjamin Bernheim makes his debut at the New Year’s Eve Concert singing famous arias from Romantic operas. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla also makes her debut with the Philharmoniker, conducting works by Mieczysław Weinberg, Sergei Prokofiev and John Williams. Stars such as Lang Lang, Klaus Mäkelä, Joyce DiDonato, Hilary Hahn and Jonas Kaufmann return to the orchestra.
