Screening at hinterland galerie in Vienna – Hospitality at the Krongarten with film + music
Hinterland galerie is hosting a special event from 17 Sept - 24 Oct 2020 devoted to the topic of HOSPITALITY. On 2 October in cooperation with the IMZ and this human world – International Human Rights Film Festival, there was an open-air screening of 5 films.
During the course of a special event from 17 Sept - 24 Oct 2020 devoted to the topic of HOSPITALITY hosted by hinterland galerie, the IMZ contributed the screening of “Beethoven – The Sound of Nature”. The Deutsche Welle production screened on 2 October was met with great enthusiasm by the audience. The motto of the evening was “Gastfreundschaft im Krongarten mit Film und Musik” (Hospitality at the Krongarten with film + music).
Since 2020 marks the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, it was only fitting to show a film that deals with one of the greatest composers of the classical era. The Deutsche Welle documentary looks at five different musicians whose work addresses the issues of nature and the environment, including Australian violist + composer Brett Dean, Grammy-winning Indian film music composer Ricky Kej and Ethiopian pop singer Betty G. How does their music resonate in a time where the world faces climate change and environmental devastation?
After the Deutsche Welle production“ Beethoven – The Sound of Nature” shown at 18:00, 4 short films followed that this human world – International Human Rights Film Festival contributed.
With this year's focus on HOSPITALITY, hinterland wants to open its space even more – to invite curators, artists, friends from different parts of the world to share their point of views, their hopes and dreams.
“HOSPITALITY is the virtue of a great soul that cares for the whole universe through the ties of humanity…The spirit of commerce, has broken the ties of benevolence between individuals; it has caused much good and evil; [...] easy luxury and a love of interest. This love has replaced the secret movements of nature which formerly linked men through tender and touching bonds”. (Louis, Chevalier de Jaucourt)
