Ring des Nibelungen live at the Vienna State Opera
Wiener Staatsoper live at home streams Wagner’s whole Ring cycle live on the square and live at home.
Der Ring des Nibelungen is shown every season at the Vienna State Opera – in the current season even twice! Both Ring cycles can be experienced live on the video screen in front of the opera building for free; the second Ring at the end of May/beginning of June is also available for opera lovers all over the world through the streaming service Wiener Staatsoper live at home (live or at your personal primetime within 72 hours of the respective performance).
The cycle is conducted by Peter Schneider – an expert on Wagner’s works. Also the singers – for example, Stefan Vinke, Petra Lang, Jochen Schmeckenbecher or Thomas Johannes Meyer – are eminent for past performances of Wagnerian roles.
“Accomplished the eternal work!” writes Wagner in a letter to his patron Ludwig II after the completion of his masterpiece. The monumental opera cycle, does not merely rekindle mythological artefacts, but also comprises political and societal criticism and revolutionary attitudes. Perhaps it is because of this ambiguity that the Ring managed to maintain a kind of magical aura.
