Review: Spot On MozART Expo 2022
In October, the University Mozarteum showed current results of its project Spot On MozART, which deals with digital visualisations of Mozart's music.
Green carpets and the smell of popcorn showed visitors the way to the Spot On MozART Expo. Guests found themselves in a lounge area in the Solitär foyer, where they were guided into the Solitär hall to watch short films.
Those who wanted to could join a guided tour of the exhibition afterwards, or explore the individual projects on their own.
There was a lot to discover: a 360° video, a piano-playing robot, interactive musical experiences in container spaces, pedagogical works, a collaboration between Mozarteum students and the archive of the Red Bull Media House - a total of 17 projects were presented, inviting visitors not only to look at them, but also to participate. The visualizations challenged us to consider the question of how our individual perception of music changes when artistic imaginings present us with different pictures than we would associate with the music ourselves.
For the first time, the ‘Fulldome / VR&AR Lab’ of the University of Applied Arts Vienna was also brought to the Mozarteum University with the cooperation project ‘Mozart-realtime Quintet’. With the aim of giving visitors an active, playful and at the same time creative approach to Mozart's work, the Mozart Clarinet Quintet was realized as an interactive fulldome experience.
A look behind the scenes was provided by a second edition of the scrapbook with insights into the creation of the projects and personal statements by the artists, which can be downloaded from the spotonmozart.at website.
