The OFUNAM (Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM) will take you on an unforgettable musical journey through Mexico in its recent concert in May 2023 at the Sala Nezahualcóyotl. Under the direction of the guest conductor Eduardo Álvarez, the event is entitled "Sones y valses de México" and presents an exceptional repertoire that fuses classical music and popular Mexican expressions that have endured since the 19th century.

The Mexican waltz is the star of this event, and among the jewels performed are the "Vals poético" by Felipe Villanueva and "Sobre las olas" by Juventino Rosas, two emblematic masterpieces that have captivated the world. Also presented are works that marked the golden age of waltzes, such as the anthem of Oaxaca, "Dios nunca muere" by Macedonio Alcalá.

OFUNAM will also present Mexican 'sones' (a musical style that varies according to the region of the country) in orchestral version. From the 'son huasteco' to the iconic 'son jarocho', the audience will be able to take a closer look at Mexico's musical roots with pieces such as "El hidalguense" by Nicandro Castillo and "La Bamba" (Anonymous).

The concert also features orchestral versions of iconic Mexican songs, such as "Camino de Guanajuato" by José Alfredo Jiménez, "Cielito lindo" by Quirino Mendoza and the 'chilena' (a Mexican musical genre from Costa Chica) "Alingo lingo" by Manuel Mejía.

Don't miss the opportunity to explore Mexico through this concert that TV UNAM brings to you.
