OFUNAM First Season 2024 Program 1
The first orchestra concert of the OFUNAM will take you through time and to new places with symphonies and melodies from all over the world.
"OFUNAM 2024 First Season – Program 1" is the title of the first programme of the season called "Foco Parajes" (Landscape Focus).
The programme features music that will take you on a journey through different eras, landscapes, and countries. The pieces range from Great Britain to Poland, Mexico, and Finland.
The concert's first piece is "Nocturne for Orchestra" by Elizabeth Maconchy, composed in 1950. It creates a mysterious atmosphere of mythical and real creatures under the moonlight. Followed by the Violin concerto No.1 in F-Sharp Minor by Henryk Wieniawski. Composed when Wieniawski was only 17 years old and is known for its technical difficulty. The talented violinist, Sebastian Kwapisz, will be the soloist for this performance.
The capsule topic for today is "Redes" (Nets), a Mexican film. In this segment, you will learn about the historical context of the movie, its production process, and the various challenges faced during its completion.
In the second half of the concert, we'll have music from Mexico and Finland. We'll start with melodies from the documentary "Redes" and end with The Symphony No. 7 in C major, Op. 105 by Jean Sibelius. This symphony is unconventional, with one movement and eleven sections, each with a different tempo. The piece is only 20 minutes long but conveys the composer's message effectively.
