Musical Celebration: Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería
TV UNAM broadcasts a delightful orchestra concert presented by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería and directed by Carlos Miguel Prieto.
As part of their regular season, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (the symphony orchestra of the Palace of Mining) presented a joyful concert in September 2022. As their artistic director, Carlos Miguel Prieto, explains, this concert is a whole musical celebration since all the five pieces they present celebrate something special.
The concert includes three Mexican classics from the mid-20th century, as well as two new pieces that harmonize with the others.
The classic ones are "Sensemayá", composed by Silvestre Revueltas and based on the poem by Nicolás Guillén, which was inspired by the Afro-Cuban heritage and it's full of musicality; "Sinfonía no. 2 India", composed by Carlos Chávez, inspired by prehispanic rhythms and presented with pre-Columbian instruments; and, of course, "Huapango", composed by José Pablo Moncayo.
The new ones are "Mariachitlán", a homage to the mariachi tradition, composed by the young Juan Pablo Contreras; and "Santa Cruz de Pacairigua" by Venezuelan composer Evencio Castellanos.
Enjoy this concert broadcasted to you by TV UNAM and be part of the celebration!
