Metropolitan Opera’s Il Trovatore in cinemas
02 JAN 2021: MET IM KINO brings Verdi’s masterpiece, sung by an extraordinary cast, to German and Austrian cinemas on 2+3 January.
Due to the coronavirus-related closure of The Metropolitan Opera, MET IM KINO presents a highlight season including the very best of the past decade of the Met live in HD series.
On 2+3 January, opera lovers in Germany and Austria will be able to enjoy Verdi’s IL TROVATORE which opened the 2015/16 Met live in HD season. “Now this is why people go to the opera!” exclaimed the NY Observer after the premiere, referring to the “superhuman singing”: The all-star cast features Anna Netrebko as Leonora, the young noblewoman at the center of the story, who is in love with the troubadour of the title – tenor Yonghoon Lee – but also pursued by Count di Luna, sung by the great Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Dolora Zajick completes the quartet of principals in her signature role of Azucena, the mysterious Gypsy woman who sets the dramatic events in motion. Marco Armiliato conducts David McVicar’s Goya-inspired production.
