Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska stars in the title role of the legendary cold-hearted princess who has renounced all men - seen live in cinemas on 7 May. In Franco Zeffirelli’s classic staging, which dazzles with its opulent visions of mythic China, tenor Yonghoon Lee is Calàf, the unknown prince who solves Turandot’s riddles and wins her love, alongside soprano Ermonela Jaho as the devoted servant Liù who gives her life to save Calàf, and legendary bass Ferruccio Furlanetto as the blind king Timur. Marco Armiliato conducts Puccini’s stirring score, drawing a vivid array of musical colors from the incomparable Met Orchestra and Chorus. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, presented in Germany and Austria by Clasart Classic.
