Live on fidelio: Salome
24 JAN 2020: Richard Strauss' masterpiece “Salome” – Friday, 24 January 2020 live from the Vienna State Opera on fidelio.
Salome, the beautiful adolescent princess, falls in love with Jochanaan, a puritanical prophet dungeoned by her stepfather, King Herodes – but Jochanaan disgustedly rejects her advances. As she dances for him, the lascivious king promises her to fulfill whatever wish. Infuriated by Jochanaans refusal, she demands his head from Herodes. With a heavy heart the king meets her request. When Salome grasps the bloody head on a silver tray, Herodes, horrified, orders her to be executed.
Conducted by Mikko Franck this performance will promise nothing but excellency starring Herwig Pecoraro (Herodes), Waltraud Meier (Herodia), Lise Lindstrom (Salome) and Michael Volle as Jochanaan. Friday, 24 January 2020 live from the Vienna State Opera on fidelio.
