Kirill Petrenko & Berlin Philharmonic in Prague
Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker performed Smetanas My vlast (My fatherland) at the opening concert from the Prague Spring Festival 2024.
The year 2024 marks two anniversaries of the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. In March, the music world celebrated the 200 years of the composer’s birth and in May, 140 years were passed since his death. What better way to celebrate this colossus of Czech music than with a performance of Má vlast (My fatherland) at the Prague Spring’s opening concert performed by an orchestra regarded as the best in the world?
This is a distinction enjoyed by the Berliner Philharmoniker, who visited to Prague after an absence of ten years. The orchestra performed the festival’s signature work in the Smetana House, headed by their Chief Conductor, Kirill Petrenko, who gave his Czech debut.
