IMZ Academy 2026: That's a Wrap
The IMZ Academy 2026 has come to a close, with a new generation of multi-camera opera directors ready for the screen.
Hosted by the Royal College of Music in London, this year's workshop offered participants an intensive four-day immersion into the art of live multi-camera directing for opera. Working in the RCM's state-of-the-art facilities and iconic Britten Theatre, participants explored everything from camera scripting and gallery technique to collaborating with stage directors and creative teams.
The highlight of the workshop was the opportunity to direct sections of five brand-new operas, written, staged and performed by RCM students. After two online workshops and four days of rehearsals, feedback sessions and script revisions, the participants brilliantly directed live performances in a professional broadcast environment.
Since its launch in 2013, the IMZ Academy's mission has been to provide industry professionals with the expertise needed to succeed in the field of audiovisual recording of the performing arts.
A huge thank you to the Royal College of Music, our faculty members Peter Maniura, Rhodri Huw and Yvonne Craven, and all the students and artists who made this very special edition possible.
